Commercial Gas Meter Installation

Yes, domestic energy switching is now open again. With prices stabilizing, both home and business energy suppliers are providing highly competitive deals, and many are opting not to fix their energy rates.

How to Switch Energy Suppliers?

It is a well-known fact that many businesses are busy and often business energy supplier comparison falls to the bottom of the priority list. If businesses allow their business gas and business electricity contracts to roll onto expensive out-of-contract rates, they end up paying much more than they need to.

Finding the Best Energy Supplier for Your Business

Depending on your sector, some gas and electricity suppliers may be better suited to your needs than others. Despite rising energy bills during the current crisis, business energy customers still have the option to switch their gas and electricity tariffs.

What Should I Do If My Business Energy Supplier Goes Out of Business?

If your supplier goes out of business, you should take the following steps:

  1. Take Regular Meter Readings: Record your meter readings regularly.
  2. Avoid Switching Suppliers: Do not attempt to switch energy suppliers during this time.
  3. Wait for Contact: Be patient and wait for your new energy company to reach out to you.

General FAQs

Several factors influence the commercial electricity tariff available to your business. The key variables that affect the price you pay for your electricity supply include:

  • Wholesale Prices
  • Location and Size of the Business Premises
  • Credit Ratings
  • Industry Sector
  • Annual Consumption

Many businesses view these challenges as reasons not to switch electricity suppliers, which often results in them being on the wrong type of tariff.

We’re here to assist you in navigating the electricity market and securing the best deal from our panel of trusted suppliers. Regardless of your business size, we’ll help you find a suitable electricity deal in just seconds.

You can cancel your business electricity contract, but it’s generally not recommended. Most business electricity contracts come with an early exit fee, typically the remaining cost of the contract.

However, you can secure a new electricity deal up to 12 months before your current contract ends. If you find a favorable rate while comparing business electricity prices, it may be worth locking it in early.

Not all tariffs provide cheaper rates at night. Most business electricity tariffs maintain the same unit rate 24/7 throughout the duration of the contract.

However, you can opt for an Economy 7 or Economy 10 tariff, which does offer cheaper rates during off-peak hours. These tariffs are often ideal for businesses like restaurants, nightclubs, or bars that operate late into the night.

This is a common question, and the answer depends on how your business uses its electricity supply. While a tariff with no standing charge may seem appealing, it could end up increasing your overall electricity costs.

A typical business electricity supplier might offer a tariff without standing charges, but they will likely offset this with a higher unit rate.

A standing charge is applied every day, 365 days a year. For example, a 45p daily charge would cost £164.25 annually. Meanwhile, the unit rate, applied to each kWh of electricity used, typically forms the largest portion of your bill.

For businesses with medium to high electricity usage, a no-standing charge tariff might end up costing more. On the other hand, low-usage businesses could benefit from this type of tariff and save on their electricity supply.

There are several costs to consider regarding business electricity. Most businesses pay a standard VAT rate of 20% on their supply, which is automatically included in your bill by the electricity supplier.

However, some business electricity customers may qualify for a reduced VAT rate of 5%. You could be eligible for this discount if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • Your business is a charity or a non-profit organization.
  • Your business energy usage is very low (less than 1,000 kWh of electricity per month).
  • At least 60% of your business electricity supply is used for domestic purposes (this must be substantiated).
